May reads
Mini reviews of everything I read last month
Welcome to The Quiet 20s, a corner of the internet where we love slow living, books, and navigating the whirlwind decade of your 20s. I’d love to have you here!
Whew, May was a crazy month for me! As I sit down to write my reading wrap-up for the month, I realise I finished a grand total of one book… not my strongest reading period!! That said, it was a 700+ page read. Keep scrolling for the review.
Current TBR list
In case you’re new around here, I’m trying to cut down my TBR list as I have soooo many books to read. This is how I hold myself accountable!
Physical: 32
Kindle: 13
Audiobooks: 1
Total: 46
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas
The fifth book in SJM’s Throne of Glass series, which follows assassin Celaena Sardothien as she navigates a kingdom which has banned magic.
FYI - I don’t summarise the plots of books in a series after book one (unless they’re, like, mega old or really well known) to avoid spoilers for people who may want to read them in the future!
I honestly think you can have too much of a good thing. After loving - and devouring - the first three books in the Throne of Glass series, the fourth and fifth books felt really difficult to get through for me. I much preferred Queen of Shadows to its predecessor Heir of Fire, but the story felt really, really slow at times.
In QOS we are introduced to yet more characters and the final third of the book is jam-packed to the brim with nail-biting action, which is when it really becomes a page-turner. It was worth muddling through the first 66% for the emotional rollercoaster at the end!
What did you read (and enjoy!) in May?

I really need to read the Throne of Glass series and this felt like a little push to finally move the series up my TBR list Soph!! I am also so bad for collecting book titles and making my list wayyyy too long 😅 I better get reading 😂💛
I read East of Eden and loved it!
