This might just be me, but I love noseying at what other people’s bookshelves look like. I wish I had the space and the organisational skills to have shelves like a bookstagrammer, coordinated by colour or series and elevated with plants, candles and Pop! Funkos.
Alas, my shelves are wedged in the corner of our spare-room-slash-office between my desk, the wall and the radiator. They’re a secondhand set of ladder shelves that I bought from a local store when it sadly closed down, and I painted over their wacky primary colours with a muted blue. I was so young and naive back then (a year ago) and didn’t think that:
a) Those shelves would never house all of my books.
b) I definitely should have just sanded and varnished them - the natural wood would be so much nicer.
So my poor, beloved books are in some strange no-man’s-land where my very favourites are on the top shelf, and everything else is bunged together chaotically on the next few shelves and also all over my desk and, in fact, just dotted around the flat.
Naturally, I’m in need of a “Big Sort”. I only keep books I will re-read or want to loan to other people, anything else on my shelves is part of my physical TBR. This month I’m challenging myself to read only physical books I already own to make my shelves a little more bearable. I know I won’t read all of them (not even close) but it still feels exciting to shop my stash.
And if a cosy festive read on my Kindle sneaks in somewhere? I can’t be held responsible.
Here’s every single book I have, physically, at home waiting to be read. I’ve made notes if it’s secondhand, part of a book swap/loan, or gifted by someone to me - otherwise I’ve picked these up brand new from a store.
