12 weeks on Substack...
So get to know me!
Hello, hello, hello!
This time 12 weeks ago my first-ever Substack post went live and The Quiet 20s was officially out in the big wide world. Since then, I have completely and utterly fallen head over heels in love with this platform and the wonderful people who are on here. As I wrote in a post last week, it has given me a total new lease of life.
So, after three months I thought it was about time this lovely community got to know me a bit better! And, considering the name of my Substack, there’s no better way to do that than share 20 random things about me… so here goes…
I was inspired to start writing on Substack because I wanted an outlet for my own writing. My day job is in marketing/PR meaning I spend a lot of time writing for other people, and in the past I have had a successful personal blog which I really missed, so when I realised the power of Substack I dived right in!
My favourite book of all time is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.
I am such a water baby. In my teen years I was a national-level swimmer and I love all things marine life (especially sharks) - in another life I’m sure I’m a marine biologist.
Following on from point 3 comes two of my favourite memories… in 2022 I went to Mauritius for my mum’s wedding and had the amazing experience of swimming with a humpback whale and its calf in the wild - terrifying but magical. I also did a dive into the shark tank at Blue Planet Aquarium last year to raise money for a local charity!
Little old me with a big ol’ shark! In my spare time I love to cross stitch. Last year, I made gift tags for everyone’s Christmas presents that doubled up as tree decorations!
I find true crime very interesting and will typically do the aforementioned cross stitching while listening to or watching a true crime podcast or documentary - the two hobbies shouldn’t work, but they do.
I’m fluent in Spanish (although a little rusty at the minute) and understand a little Italian. I would love to learn more languages.
If I could have a dinner party with any five celebrities it would be RuPaul, Zendaya, Justin Bieber, James Cameron and Kehlani.
The US version of The Office is my favourite TV show of all time and I’ve probably rewatched it over 100 times at this point - it’s constantly playing on my TV and I have Funko Pops everywhere of the characters. In my hypothetical dinner party universe, I would have a separate occasion for the entire cast and crew of this show.
One day, I would love to have a published book.
Iceland is my favourite country I’ve ever visited. Despite visiting twice, though, I’m yet to see the Northern Lights…
I have many, many photos of Icelandic nature that I can’t seem to find. So here’s a picture of me in Reykjavik. I’m a Scorpio.
But I hate celebrating my birthday.
Autumn is my favourite season. Crunchy leaves, spookiness, cosiness, lovely meals, then Christmas… give me it all!!!
When I was 19 (and still living at home) my mum got a golden retriever named Biggell. Since then, I’ve known exactly what it’s like to love, and be loved, unconditionally. We are each other’s favourite beings on this planet.
Just two soulmates As I write this I’m listening to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. They are my dad’s favourite bad and, as a result of years listening in the car together, are mine too - something else we share along with our love of movies. We’ve seen RHCP twice in concert, and the second time I was over the moon to get him the tickets as a birthday present.
I hate horror movies but love animal attack films. Jaws is my favourite film ever.
If there’s a Makers Market or indie fair happening near me, best believe I’m going and spending too much money. My apartment is full of cool and quirky pieces for this very reason.
On my mum’s side of the family, most of my relatives can play piano by ear and many of them are very good tennis players - my grandpa even competed at Wimbledon. I have not inherited either of these skills.
Despite a prawn allergy, sushi is one of my favourite foods. There is an amazing restaurant near our home and my boyfriend and I love nothing more than getting a takeaway and having a sushi picnic in our local park. On special occasions, like our anniversary, we’ll treat ourselves to dining in…

I absolutely LOVE A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I like it even more than The Kite Runner and to find someone who thinks the same already tells me everything I need to know! had we gone to the same school or maybe even lived in the same town, I know you would have been a good friend to have :)
