Post-Avatar Depression
It's not just related to the world of Pandora. Comparing James Cameron's blockbuster to Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing.
James Cameron’s Avatar is one of my favourite films of all time. Not for its plot but for the beautiful planet and residents Cameron has created in Pandora, the film’s fictional planet.
Earlier this month I read (and loved) Fourth Wing, an epic romantasy by Rebecca Yarros based at a war college where the main characters are training to become dragon riders. Similarly to Avatar, I completely fell in love with the world and characters Yarros had created.
After finishing Fourth Wing on a Friday night, I felt… off.
I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. The hollow feeling in my stomach, the sadness that had washed over me for no real reason, the general pointlessness I felt.
Then I realised, I felt the exact same way as I do after watching Avatar.
